WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR SESSIONS
Session structure
REFERRAL
Referrals can be received directly from clients, either by phone or email, or by a referring service/health professional (i.e. your GP). After receiving your referral I will make contact with you to discuss your needs and what kind of support you are looking for. The first session will be more about getting to know each other and making sure you feel I am the right ‘fit’.
All clinicians are trained differently and we all have different clinical backgrounds and styles. It is most important that you feel like the connection with your therapist is comfortable and supportive.

INTAKE
During our intake call I will confirm your contact details, GP details and parent details (for <18), these details will be saved in secure electronic records where your session notes will begin. I will send you an intake form to complete prior to our first session which details your goals and wishes for therapy and what areas you would like to work on in session. If you are seeking eating disorder treatment I may also send you some specific screening/assessment tools (EDE-Q) that will allow me to be prepared for your needs before your first appointment.
FIRST SESSION
Your first session is centred on information gathering (assessment) – we will talk together about why you are seeking support and what factors contributed to your current circumstances. Sometimes this can take a few sessions. This process allows me to create a sense of what might be happening for you that is based on your insights and reflections, and to help set the treatment plan with some shared goals that you identify you’d like to work towards.
THERAPY & REVIEW
During the course of your therapy we will continue to work together on your goals. My experience in working with families proves that including loved ones in applying changes outside of session, creates better outcomes and understanding for young people. When parents are included in the work communication remains open and transparent which shows improvement in relationships and connection.
When it is time for a review with your GP, to activate more sessions under Medicare or for feedback, I will send them a letter detailing the progress so far and my impression of what I think will be helpful next.
CLIENT FIT
I am currently seeing young people aged 10 years old+; adolescents and adults – who suit talked based therapy. I will use experiential models during therapy for younger children when I feel this is appropriate.
If you are looking for a therapist to primarily focus on play-based intervention for your pre-school/primary school aged child under the age of 10 – I can help to redirect you to a colleague who specialises in this work.
Staying on track
If during the course of our work you feel like it is unhelpful, that we’re perhaps not a good ‘fit’, or your circumstances change – please let me know so we can problem solve together.
